Overview
An editorial system for a design publication moving from a quarterly print issue to a weekly email.
Brief
The editors wanted to publish weekly instead of four times a year. Nobody on the team is a designer, and every issue was being rebuilt from scratch in a different shape.
Approach
I built a modular article grid and a type hierarchy that holds at three column widths, so the same story works in the email, on the site and in print.
Cover templates ship with the decisions already made. There is very little left to get wrong.
Outcome
The team now ships every Friday without design help. Layout time per issue went from about two days to under an hour.
